Indo-Pak HDI Change, 1990 to 2018
Color-coded maps for changes in HDI from 1990 to 2018 for Indo-Pak subdivisions
In my previous post, I put together a color-coded map of HDI data from 2018 for subdivisions (i.e., provinces, states, territories) in the Indian subcontinent (with some caveats).
See the map below and the post here.
Below is a color-coded map of HDI data from 1990 for subdivisions (i.e., provinces, states, territories) in India and Pakistan. Please note that the same information was not available for other countries in the Indian subcontinent, and as such, those countries have been omitted from the map below.
A couple of caveats:
The HDI data for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is inflated because the map does not separately show the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), which has and had a lower HDI score than pre-merger Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The map shoes the current borders where FATA has been merged into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The HDI score used for this combined Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is simply the score for the pre-merger Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
There may be some discrepancy in the HDI data for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Previously, these two Union Territories comprised one state. The HDI score for that combined state has been applied to both the current Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Union Territories. It is possible that one of the two Union Territories should have a higher score, and the other a lower score.
Below is a color-coded map showing the change in HDI data from 1990 to 2018. It basically subtracts the 1990 HDI score from the 2018 HDI score for each subdivision, and shows the change in score for each subdivision. The same caveats noted above apply.
